About Me
My name is Kayla Inserra and I'm a recent graduate from Penn State University with a B.A. degree in public relations, Spanish and International studies. I'm a sports fanatic, social media enthusiast and food connoisseur. (The last one is attributed to my Italian, food loving family who looks forward to holidays due to the amount of cooking they will be partaking in!) I aspire to be a public relations professional and plan to get any and all the experience necessary to get there. I believe in developing and maintaining a goal is the only way to achieve one.
The past year has brought upon surprises and experiences I never imagined. One year ago I had the opportunity to live in Madrid, Spain for six months with a spanish speaking family. I became accustomed to new behaviors and traditions that have grown to be a part of who I am today. I travelled to Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Ibiza, Lisbon, Barcelona and various other Spanish cities. It was an experience I will value for the rest of my life and something I recommend to any college student. However, the stress of finding an internship while abroad began to set in. I ended up landing an amazing opportunity with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) located in Colorado Springs!
So, about five days after I returned home from Spain, (three of those days spent mostly in bed due to jet lag) I ventured west for the first time in my life. Having lived on the east coast my entire life, Colorado was an experience in itself. The picture perfect scenery, the red rocks, the mountain views and the thousands of people participating in outdoor actives. (It became second nature to me to make sure I was outside and soaking in the amazing Colorado weather whenever I had the chance.) Working with the MLBPAA I was able to meet amazing people, experience my first All-Star Game, and conduct a free youth baseball clinic for children and former MLB players. If it had not been for my amazing family, I would never have had the opportunity to participate in any of these once in a lifetime opportunities.
My family is the most important thing in my life and their unconditional love and support has provided me with every opportunity I have encountered. They have been my biggest influence and motivation to succeed. While I'm originally a New Yorker I now call North Carolina my home and I think after seven years my mom finally does too. While all of my family has officially moved south I persist on moving back to the Big Apple. Even my New York native, fedora wearing, pizza loving brother recently relocated to Chapel Hill to open up a gourmet grilled cheese food truck!
